Buemi Excused by Toro Rosso for Poor Hungarian GP

With a new unexperienced teammate by his side starting the Hungarian Grand Prix, everyone expected Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi to take his leading role within the Scuderia Toro Rosso team more seriously. Although he started the weekend pretty well and scored the 11th best time of the qualifying session, the 20-year old rookie finished the race behind Jaime Alguersuari.

After crossing the chequered flag on Sunday, Buemi had no problem admitting his disastrous performance, especially since it had the worst race timing ever. Not only he was expected to show his inexperienced teammate a thing or two about F1 racing, but he also benefited from some major improvements brought to the STR4.

The Hungarian Grand Prix was the race everybody back at Faenza was waiting for, as the 2009 challenger underwent a major facelift. Nevertheless, some poor driving in the first part of the race and an unfortunate visit to the runoffs during his second stint caused Buemi to finish the race one lap behind the leaders.

The car was good, as we showed in qualifying but today I was the one who made the mistakes. I have never been that bad. I can only say sorry to my team who gave me a good car,” admitted Buemi for Switzerland's Blick after the race.

However, the 20-year old was immediately excused by team manager Franz Tost, who insisted these kind of performances are only natural for a rookie driver.

Sometimes you have days like that in racing. Sebastien doesn't need to worry too much, it is a normal part of a 20-year-old's development process,” said Tost.
