Buemi and Alguersuari Silent in Flight to Malaysia

Scuderia Toro Rosso may have to tackle some unexpected driver-related issues in the 2011 season of Formula 1, after their racers Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari failed to be on the same page after their “track encounter” in Australia. Whether it's because Aussie Daniel Ricciardo is knocking on STR's door this season or not, we can only imagine...

At the start of the Australian Grand Prix two weekends back, the duo made contact at the first corner, leading Buemi to publicly criticize his teammate after the race for not respecting him enough. Responding to those accusations, the Spaniard insisted that the contact wasn't his fault, but occurred as a result of Buemi's previous clash with Renault's Nick Heidfeld.

Needless to say, the pair did not reach the same conclusion one week after the incident, as Swiss newspaper Blick now reports they haven't spoken to each other through the entire duration of the flight to Malaysia. According to the aforementioned source, Buemi and Alguersuari endured “12 hours of silence” from Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur.

We spoke after his foul in Melbourne,” reportedly said Buemi. “We both had a different opinion. I hope he does the right thing now and respects me. I don't want to say any more about it.

In the end, it was still Buemi who went on to finish the race ahead of his teammate. More, due to Sauber's disqualification later on, he got to score 2 more points in the overall classification. He initially finished the Sunday running in 10th place, behind Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

I feel sorry for the Swiss team,” further commented Buemi, “but they are fast enough that they will succeed again soon. I think that in 2011 we will have a good fight with Sauber and also Williams.”
