Bruno Spengler Beats Paul Di Resta for Lausitz Win

Bruno Spengler scored his first win in the DTM in approximately 3 years, after beating unlucky teammate Paul di Resta during last weekend's race at Lausitzring. The Canadian driver took advantage of a failed pit stop from his Mercedes teammate and powered to his first win of the season and also his first success since his Norisring triumph in 2007.

The pair broke away from the pack in the early stages of the race, with Di Resta appearing to have no problem in keeping Spengler away from 1st place. However, the Mercedes mechanics had a decisive role in setting up the winner of the race, as the Scot's pit stop was lengthened by a faulty left-rear wheel.

Thanks to that opportunity, Spengler powered to 1st place, which he never let go until the finish line. The second round of pit stops brought nothing new to the table and the Canadian drove comfortably to the chequered flag, while Di Resta eased up the pressure in the late stages of the race. That allowed Jamie Green to close in on the British driver, but he settled for 3rd place, handing Mercedes a perfect 1-2-3 finish.

The battle for 4th place was influenced from the early stages of the Sunday action, when Mattias Ekstrom was passed by Jamie Green and later had a slight contact with Alexandre Premat. The Swede's Audi A4 DTM was then led into a spin, and hit by fellow teammate Timo Scheider and David Coulthard.

Ekstrom and Coulthard would later record a DNF in the pit stops for excessive damage to their cars, while Scheider's mechanics managed to repair his Audi and the German eventually drove to a point-scoring 8th place overall.

Consequently, the battle for 4th place saw Audi's Mike Rockenfeller drive in front of Mercedes' Gary Paffett for most of the race, while pulling away after his second pit stop and securing a worthy Top 4 finish. Following Paffet in 6th place was Audi's Martin Tomczyk, ahead of Mercedes' Susie Stoddart, who scored her first ever DTM points in career.
