Bruder EXP-6 Expedition Trailer Is a Beast on the Outside but a Beauty Within

The EXP-6 has been on the market for a couple of years, while the GT version was launched last year. To this day, they offer an unparalleled off-roading experience that is smooth, comfortable and incredibly easy at the same time. And one that can be as fancy as your wallet allows it, because each unit is fully customizable.

Bruder EXP-6 is an expedition trailer like no other, a real beast on the outside and a beauty within. Performance is equally beastly, thanks to adjustable height and suspension, a tough but comparatively lighter chassis, smart connectivity, solar panels, plenty of storage for the bare necessities, and the promise of smooth rides on all types of terrains. Meanwhile, the interior is fancy enough to draw justified comparisons to a proper mobile home.

As noted above, the EXP-6 comes in the standard format, which includes a power-lift roof system that raises the roof for more living space, and the EXP-6 GT, which replaces the heavy duty scissor lift with an actual hardtop raised roof. Both versions can sleep up to six people, thanks to a combination of a queen size bed and three additional bunk beds (two smaller and a larger one that can sleep two kids). As such, it is ideal for families, providing everything they could need for extended adventures, even off-grid.

The chassis of the EXP-6 is made from 30mm thick closed cell epoxy bonded composite, which makes it almost half as light as similarly sized trailers but more robust. The chassis is completely insulated for maximum energy efficiency, and protection against sand and water. The EXP-6, as the video at the bottom of the page shows, is even waterproof, so you won’t have to worry about crossing a stream while towing it.

Measuring 5 meters (16.4 feet) in length and under 2 meters (6.5 feet) in width, the EXP-6 comes with increased aerodynamics thanks to the tapered rear-end. Bruder says that, despite its bulky and rough appearance, it was designed to not slow you down, whether you’re traveling on the highway, navigating rough terrains or even performing a full lock turn.

Perhaps the most impressive part about this expedition trailer is the way it was built to handle even the most treacherous terrain. The proprietary suspension system has over 12 inches of wheel travel, guaranteeing a smooth ride and the possibility to level out slopes and other obstacles. In case of a flat tire, the EXP-6 can easily function as single-axle, raising either the front or rear wheel.

Height can be adjusted at the touch of a button and comes in handy when parked, to adjust to the terrain, or when using the indoor / outdoor kitchen. In fact, everything about the EXP-6 can be controlled at the touch of a button: the cabin management system can be accessed either internally, on the trailer’s touchscreen, or remotely via app, on your phone.

Inside, the EXP-6 is surprisingly flush in creature comforts. In addition to the sleeping area built around the queen-size bed, there’s a lounge area with a comfortable couch – that can be expanded into bunk beds. The small bathroom is fitted with toilet, sink, shower and storage space. There’s also a flatscreen TV, climate control and heating, and windows on all sides to allow in plenty of natural light.

The kitchen area is accessible both from the outside and the inside, depending on preferences. You can use power awnings to create a more pleasant exterior dining area. Tiny as it is, the kitchen is fitted with everything you need, and if it’s not already included (like a portable gas barbecue), you can add it as an extra option. Standard amenities include two refrigerators, storage space for utensils and ingredients, a variety of cooking tops and a table that swivels to become dining table or office space, according to needs.

In anticipation of every possible scenario, Bruder fitted the EXP-6 with an outdoor hot / cold shower and the possibility of a clothes washer as an extra option. Other add-ons include increased water storage (there’s a standard internal 170-liter / 44.9-gallon water tank), additional awning options, remote water fill-up and filtration, and increased battery storage.

Since we’re on the topic, yes, the trailer does come with the possibility of an additional source of sustainable energy. The GT model comes with 600 watts of solar power through roof-mounted panels, and a 225-Ah lithium battery, allowing the possibility of extended stays off the grid.
