A 25-year-old tourist from Newport, South Wales, is currently on holiday in Dubai and making headlines after managing to rack $45,000 in speeding fines in a matter of hours.
The problem is that he committed 33 traffic violations of speeding at the wheel of a rented car. Make that at the wheel of a rented Lamborghini Huracan. The bigger problem is that he’s refusing to pay the penalties, according to The National.

Identified as Farah Hashi, the tourist took the car from a leasing company for luxury vehicles, Saeed Ali Rent. He paid in cash for 2 days and left his passport as collateral. Then, within hours, he broke the speed limit 33 times in only 4 hours, going at speeds ranging from 78 to 142mph.

The leasing company has been informed of this. A rep confirms for the publication that they’re also aware the Lambo is currently gathering dust outside the tourist’s hotel, but they’re refusing to go and collect it.

That’s because previous track record shows them they will end up paying the fines if they collect the car, because the law holds the leasing company accountable, instead of the driver who committed the crime in the first place.

The tourist hasn’t been seen in public since the speeding violations, but his holiday is supposed to end this week. However, he might be looking at an extended stay in Dubai, though not necessarily for pleasure, this time.

Since the leasing company has his passport, he won’t be able to return back home to the UK until he settles this. That is to say, he will have to pay all those speeding tickets. As of this moment, the leasing company filed papers to get a travel ban in the tourist’s name. Their request has been denied, but they’re determined not to pay for his crimes.
