British Millionaire Sets Speeding Record on Spanish Road

Alan McGregor Heron, who is originally from Glasgow, has been arrested by the Spanish police after he was caught speeding on the A-92N motorway at Baza last week, setting a new speeding record in the province of Granada, Spain.

The 56-year-old British millionaire was caught by radar traveling with his Ferrari F149 California at 168mph (271kph), more than double the motorway speed limit of 75mph (120kph).

A spokesman for the Civil Guard said for the Daily Mail: “Driving at that speed is utter madness. It is very rare we see drivers going faster than 125mph. We believe it is the fastest ever recorded in Spain.”

Heron, who is currently living in Costa del Sol, was fined £3,220 and had his driving license confiscated, being banned from driving for 10 months. According to the Spanish police, he was driving his Ferrari on temporary registration plates issued in Spain.

With a platform derived from the Maserati Gran Turismo, the California is Ferrari's newest V8 engined model and, not taking into account the glass-roofed Superamerica from 2005, it is also the first ever CC (Coupe Cabrio) born in Maranello.

The businessman is also said to have several expensive high cylinder cars at his home in Marbella, Malaga. His Ferrari California which he was caught speeding in, was confiscated by the Police, but it was returned to the driver by the magistrate on Thursday morning, after the millionaire faced the Spanish court of law.

According to some speculations, Heron also owns a large villa country club in La Zagaleta, which is just miles from the coast. It is said the spot has two 18-hole golf courses, a heliport, fishing lakes and a riding club. Insiders also claimed the vacuum cleaner tycoon is married to a former Miss Australia.
