Known for its extravagant hypercars, Bugatti is looking to redefine premium home audio systems by teaming up with German audio specialist Tidal. The result is peculiar, to say the least, especially when you realize just how huge it is.
Over the last century, the French carmaker has brought us some of the most beautifully designed high-performance vehicles ever created.
Recently, they have been busy developing an outrageous racetrack monster that features a 1,825-horsepower engine and a morphing roof scoop. So, the fact that they would venture into the world of home audio systems comes as a surprise for us all.
The chosen partner for this endeavor is none other than TIDAL Audio, a German manufacturer that strives to deliver perfection with its groundbreaking high-quality products. Since it shares this philosophy with Bugatti, this seemingly unusual partnership makes a lot of sense.

Together they just launched a series of exclusive home audio systems called Royale, a name that pays homage to one of the most prestigious models in Bugatti’s history.
Each loudspeaker pair comes in two distinctly designed themes: Monocoque and Duotone, with customers being able to choose between piano finishes or innovative color and material combinations.
In terms of sound quality, which is the most important feature of any audio system, the Royale’s 4-way hybrid-active multichannel loudspeakers feature a 3D-shaped multi-chamber monocoque cabinet (for the Monocoque version) or a dual-shell cabinet (for the Duotone), which are made from Tidal's proprietary cabinet material called tiralit.
They are also fitted with a 30 mm (1.2 inches) high-efficiency diamond tweeter, two 170 mm (6.7 inches) front woofers with an aluminum diaphragm, and four 265 mm (10.5 inches) long-throw subwoofers, which also feature an aluminum diaphragm.
The system is offered with a matching controller that allows users to connect it to a multitude of sources, including TVs and various streaming services. It can also be controlled using any smart device.

The overall design is inspired by the carmaker’s past and present models. The Royale comes with a polished stainless steel Bugatti logo placed on the front of each speaker, and the rest of the design can be fully tailored for each customer.
The variety of optional materials include carbon fiber, various premium fabrics, leather, polished stainless steel, dark aluminum, or even precious metal surfaces. In typical Bugatti fashion, the home audio system goes through a very personal bespoke ordering process.
Also in line with the carmaker’s marketing strategies, the Royale will be offered in two exclusive versions called ‘Edition Noir’ and ‘Edition Blanc’ - each limited to only 15 pairs.

The problem is that, at least in my humble opinion, the gargantuan speakers will look awkward regardless of what materials or gemstones are used to decorate them.
Big things do not come in small packages in this case, as each speaker is 144 cm (56.7 inches) tall and weighs over 80 kg (177 lbs).
Sure, the sound quality should be indisputable, and the high level of craftsmanship is evident, but the huge size makes them look like a failed Star Wars prop rather than the most exclusive audio system on the market.
A true audiophile will probably go for Tidal’s other products like the Piano or Sunray G2, which are masterpieces of audio technology and will fit better into the overall design of one’s living room than the futuristic jukebox-looking Royale.
Sadly, I think that these Bugatti-themed speakers are destined to pick up dust next to a Veyron or Chiron in some extravagant billionaire collector’s garage and serve as a showpiece rather than being utilized for their true purpose.
