Brilliance's Vehicles to Be Fitted with BMW Engines Built in China

The BMW-Brilliance joint venture is currently building BMW's 3 Series, 5 Series and X1 CUV locally, in China. However, the engines for these cars are built by BMW to make sure the customers get what they paid for.

According to Automotive News China, the joint-venture will start building BMW turbocharged engines for Brilliance's vehicles in June 2014. These new units will be built at a new plant run by Brilliance's engine subsidiary, Xinchen China Power Holdings Limited.

Furthermore, the engines assembled in Miangyang (situated in the southwest region of China's Sichuan province) will even be fitted on BMW's own models that are assembled locally. That includes (for now) the 3 Series, 5 Series and X1 crossover but future models too.

The same source claims that the new units will be built due to a technology agreement between the parties, signed in December 2012, that authorizes the Chinese company to use BMW technology.
