Bridgestone Tire Compounds for Barcelona: Hard/Soft

Bridgestone have announced the tire compound for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix this weekend. As expected, unlike the non-European rounds of the F1 calendar – when track temperatures were considerably high – the Japanese tire manufacturer will bring harder compounds to Catalonia.

All F1 teams will receive hard and soft tires for this weekend's action, as the track in Barcelona is known to be more harsh on the cars' tires. The allocation will therefore mean a step up in terms of tire choice as compared to the Bahrain weekend two weeks ago, when Bridgestone decided upon medium and super soft compound.

Barcelona has a track surface that is the middle range in terms of abrasion and roughness but durability and driver requirements mean our harder allocation combination is used. The front left tire has a lot of work to do at this circuit and equally, teams and drivers will have a big challenge trying to gain an advantage here as they know this track so well,” said Bridgestone's Tire Development Director Hirohide Hamashima.

As argued by Hamashima, the track at Circuit de Catalonia – where most of the teams have tested during the winter testing, when lower temperatures occurred – will provide useful data in terms of car's balance, which will later determine the performances of one's challenger on other F1 tracks this year.

Generally, we see quite close lap times here and close races too. The circuit layout is well balanced so it is a good indicator of overall car balance. A car that performs in Barcelona has the potential to perform well at many places,” added Hamashima.
