Bride of Frankenstein Coming to the Back Seat of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Cars have long moved passed their initial reason for being, which is taking people from point A to point B. Thanks to technology, humans can now talk to their cars, play video games, and soon even go for a mental ride in virtual reality.

At the beginning of the year, the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas was the place where a company by the name of holoride made its entrance into the auto industry. Partnering with Audi, it showed how people could immerse themselves into VR worlds that react to the actual movements of the car.

Since then, holoride expanded its reach to Porsche as well, and now, for the first time, to an American carmaker: Ford.

Starting October 14, at the Universal CityWalk Hollywood, people will have a chance to place their bodies into a 2020 Ford Explorer and travel with their eyes and minds to the world of the Bride of Frankenstein.

Once inside the car, all buckled up and with the VR goggles on, visitors will go on a spooky, unreal trip accompanied by the popular character and all sorts of other virtual monsters, trying to dodge obstacles.

The experience, which is the first of its type open to the general public, is not your plain VR trip. Data taken from the car’s steering, accelerating and braking takes on a life of its own in the virtual world, which adapts to mimic the car’s actions.

The ride will be available to the public Monday through Wednesday for the remainder of the month and Monday through Saturday in the first week of November. To see where the pickup locations are and reserve your trip, you can check the following link.

If you happen to miss out on this experience, don’t fret. Given the carmakers’ enthusiasm for what holoride has to offer, it’s likely we’ll see an even greater number of tie-ups in the not so distant future.
