“I exclude it 100%. I still have affection for F1 even if it would have been better to have left at the end of 2006 when (Fernando) Alonso won his second title,” said Briatore, according to ESPNF1.
The former Benetton and Renault team manager was recently involved in what will remain in the memory of all F1 enthusiasts as the crash-gate. While accused of fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix by the Piquet family – Nelson Piquet Jr. and his father, 3-time F1 champion – he was found guilty by the FIA and excluded from all motorsport competitions for life.
However, in early January, the Paris Tribunal de Grande Instance reversed that decision, giving Briatore the legal right to take part in any FIA-sanctioned action, no matter the position he will be in. Consequently, everybody started asking him about a potential return, which he didn't really dismiss at the time.
However, in recent weeks, he also decided to step down from his position as chairman of English football team Queen's Park Rangers – being under pressure from the fans – which apparently convinced him that he no longer belongs to either racing or football.
“I did it so I didn't create embarrassment for the Football Association given the Singapore story,” said Briatore about the QPR story, while insisting that he is no longer interested in football. Nevertheless, he still remains a shareholder for the English club, alongside Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
