Breitling's New Avenger Blackbird 44 Is Ready for Field Duty

Last time Breitling was busy with a new model they had John Travolta posing next to an American rocket-powered aircraft on the runway of the famous Mojave Air and Space Port. But that was last week, today it’s time for yet another unit. The Avenger Blackbird 44 has nothing to do with the second installment of the superheroes blockbuster. It does, however, look like it could fit on Iron Man’s wrist.

In case you’re not familiar with the world of exclusive Swiss luxury timepieces, then you probably should know Breitling is a privately owned company founded in 1884 in Grenchen, Canton of Solothurn, Switzerland. The luxury timepiece maker is renowned for their precision-made chronometers especially used by aviators.

Since we’re quite into some of their watches, now and then we stumbled upon their newest creations. The Avenger Blackbird 44 is a high-performance, accurate and functional timepiece that is not only looking mean, but truly is. Breitling claims its watchword is “power in action” and here’s why.

The light and sturdy titanium case features a highly resistant black carbon-based treatment, resulting in a “stealth” look accentuated by its satin-brushed appearance. Excellent readability, and a rotating bezel with rider tabs for a precise count of flight or dive times complete its performances. The Military type anthracite strap in an ultra-durable high-tech fabric only comes to complete the baseline.

In specs, we’re looking at Swiss automatic Breitling caliber 17 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours. It also has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 200 meters. As to the price, you’ll need at least $5,000 to start talking.
