Breitling Reveals Heritage Collection With Forties-Inspired Datora Watch

The hype surrounding retro-inspired watches has significantly increased over the last years, and major brands are rushing to bring the best models out there. This year, Breitling launched its Premier Heritage Collection to pay tribute to its rich heritage. It seems like vintage-looking watches indeed age like fine wine.

The Breitling Premier Heritage Collection pays homage to the men who transformed the history of time-telling and shaped the brand into what it is today. Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling. He successfully invented a simple timer that could measure any speed between nine and 93 mph (15 and 150 kph), a feature seen on the Vitesse pocket watch from 1906.

Gaston, his son, designed later on one of the first wrist-worn chronographs with a push piece. The start, end and reset functions were separated from the crown, making it infinitely more realistic for timing sports.

Willy, Léon's grandson, patented the second chronograph pusher at four o'clock in 1934. The founding of the Huit Aviation Department in 1938 was one of Willy Breitling's most praised accomplishments.

Breitling's Premier Heritage Collection includes six watches divided into three distinctive categories: the Chronograph, the Duograph, and the Datora.

The Premier Datora is the most refined from the collection with its intricate calendar and moon-phase display functions. The term "Datora" was used for the first time in the '40s by Breitling and it sends to a calendar chronograph displaying the day, date, month, and the different moon phases.

The heritage-revived watch features rectangular chronograph pushers and Arabic numerals and various exquisite style details, including grooves on the case sides, open sapphire case backs, and vintage-inspired hands. The timepiece is powered by a COSC- certified waterproof Manufacture Caliber B25. A stainless-steel case frames the Datora's copper-colored profile, while the silver-colored dial rests in an 18-carat red gold case.

Priced at $26,714, the vintage-inspired watch could make the time stop.
