BRDC Denies Wanting to Sell Silverstone

The British Racing Drivers Club slammed rumors of wanting to sell the Silverstone track in the neat future. As reported by British newspaper The Guardian earlier this week, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone was linked with a potential purchase of the BRDC owned venue, as chairman Robert Brooks had reportedly made the proposal to sell the track to its fellow members of the BRDC.

Wanting to bring light into the matter, Brooks insisted that the BRDC has no plans to sell Silverstone. Talking to local newspaper Northampton Chronicle and Echo, Brooks argued that even if the British body had such plans, they wouldn't be very keen to making it public through the British media channels.

Obviously, the BRDC continues to own Silverstone, and I think if we were looking to sell it, we wouldn't set about doing it by getting all the newspapers to write about it,” said Brooks to the aforementioned course, while insisting “that doesn't mean we're flogging Silverstone.”

In addition, Brooks argued that Silverstone is well prepared to host the 2009 British Grand Prix and, if asked by the FIA or Bernie Ecclestone, it will also be ready for a potential 2010 race.

We're ready for the 2009 grand prix and we're ready for 2010 if necessary. We have to keep investing to keep the circuit up with the best of the best and I think we're going to have a cracking grand prix. I think everyone will agree when they get to Silverstone this year, it's in the best shape it's ever been,” said Brooks.

After hosting the last British Grand Prix (theoretically) in Formula One this season, Silverstone is set to become the new host of the same British GP, this time in the FIM World Motorcycle Championship (MotoGP).
