Brawn Would Bet on Schumacher's Win in 2009

With two weeks remaining until Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One – we could have said “the European Grand Prix” but “Schu's comeback” certainly sounds better nowadays – the fans have already expressed their opinions regarding the outcome of the Valencia race via a poll on F1's official site.

According to the preliminary results, more than half of the voters believe the 40-year old German will cross the finish line inside the point scoring positions, while almost 30 percent of the voters are expecting Schu to walk on the podium of the Spanish race. Finally, only 19 percent of the people who have submitted their opinion to the F1 poll believe the 7-time world champion will actually win the race.

What's interesting though is the fact that Ross Brawn may be among those last 19 percent. According to Germany's Bild Zeitung, the 54-year old Britwould actually bet his money on his former protege winning a race in 2009 (not necessarily at Valencia). As for the odds, Brawn expects Schumacher to have the same chances of winning this year as Jenson Button's at securing the 2009 title.

If I could put either ten euros on Jenson winning the championship or on Michael winning a race, I would put five euros on both of them,” Brawn is quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

A couple of days ago, Brawn also admitted that he wouldn't be surprised to see Schumacher win the European Grand Prix, arguing that only an under-performing car would prevent him from taking the chequered flag three Sunday's from now.

Of course it's obvious that he has to familiarize himself with the car, but I'm sure that if he doesn't win one of the remaining races of the season it will not be his fault, but because Ferrari is not in a winning position,” Brawn was quoted as saying by the Gazzetta dello Sport this week.
