Brawn Source Confirm Mercedes Engine Deal for 2010

Brawn GP will use Mercedes power plants in 2010. Although neither the Brackley based team nor the German manufacturer confirmed the news recently, a source within Brawn GP told the media that the deal between the two parties has already been agreed and is waiting to be inked at any time.

Several rumors regarding a new deal between Brawn and Mercedes started surfacing the media from the very first race of 2009, given the immense success the British team had in the first part of the season.

Following their fruitful partnership in 2009, Mercedes are only one fingertip away from taking their first constructors' crown in more than a decade, and the German marque has every intention of continuing what seems to go so well in the championship.

Ross Brawn also publicly admitted that his team is seeking an engine deal extension with Mercedes, as their powerful and reliable 2.4 litre V8 has brought them no less than 8 wins out of 15 races this season.

Apparently, the initial deal between the two organizations, signed in the eleventh hour of the 2009 season, has been more like an oral agreement. Mercedes will look to change that in the future, as they now prepared a full-term contract with Brawn GP, according to the same source within the team.

Well, if the deal does exist, then why won't the two parties sign it, one could ask. First of all, there is the FIA regulation on engine supply that allows a car manufacturer to supply power plants to only one customer team. In order to change that rule, the governing body needs the approval of all the Formula One teams, including McLaren.

Considering the latest rumors suggesting that Mercedes is looking to change their works team from Woking to Brackley in 2011, we'd bet on McLaren not agreeing to the new rule next year.
