Brawn Praises Button for Living Up to His Challenge

Although these things have already been written about about half of year ago, Ross Brawn once again disclosed the true reasons why Jenson Button left his title-winning team at the end of 2009. Back then, the reigning world champion told the media that he wanted to prove himself against compatriot Lewis Hamilton on the same equipment, amid constant allegations that the only reason why he won the F1 title was because of his car.

I was disappointed Jenson left,” admitted Brawn in a recent interview with The Sun, before telling the reporters why his world champion left the boat last year.

He felt people were of the opinion he only won the world championship because he had the best car. So he left us to show them he could do it again elsewhere. He also wanted to prove himself at McLaren against the guy who is probably the fastest and most naturally talented in motor racing – Lewis Hamilton,” added the Mercedes GP team boss.

However, he praised the 30-year old driver for the great job he's doing at McLaren, as he is now leading the championship with an overall 2 wins out of 4 races.

He's set himself a massive challenge and he is doing very well so far,” added Brawn, who continues to have a great relationship with his former driver.

We are still friends. We were on the same flight back from Malaysia and we had a good chat. Jenson was a fabulous member of our team last year but now he is the history and we have to beat him,” ended Brawn.
