Brawn GP Will Become Silver Arrows F1 Team

Brawn GP team will cease its existence in Formula One, at least from the designation standpoint. Following Mercedes' announcement earlier today, by which the German car maker will take over 75.1 percent of the Brackley based team starting next year, the outfit's new designation will be Silver Arrows F1 Team.

Due to the new Formula 1 environment, we will face the competition in future on the most important motor sports stage with our own Silver Arrow works team. Our new Silver Arrow Formula 1 team is a great sporting and technical challenge and we will tackle this with sporting spirit and full of enthusiasm,” said the press release from Mercedes earlier today.

In addition, the information was also confirmed by the German carmaker's chairman Dieter Zetsche during a press conference.

Without any detail so far of how this will look, we are on the way to develop that, but it will clearly be Silver Arrows,” said Zetsche, when asked about the name of the car maker's new team.

As for the driver's lineup next year, neither Zetsche nor Mercedes motorsport director Norbert Haug revealed any information, insisting that nothing has been discussed on the matter so far. In addition, the two Mercedes officials revealed that any negotiations for a racing seat have been carried out by Ross Brawn and the status of those negotiations is yet unknown by the German car maker.

Other important information about the new Silver Arrows F1 Team is the fact that the team will continue to be based in the UK – because of its vicinity to the Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines factory – and it will be ran by the same duo Ross Brawn – Nick Fry.
