Brabus Mercedes G500 4x4² and G-Class 850 Biturbo Widestar Militarise Frankfurt

With so many OEM and tuning debuts in Frankfurt, the melange of flavors is a rich one, but Brabus has managed to bring a distinct military feeling to the German venue. We are referring to the pair of G-Class machines the company has introduced in Frankfurt.

The first is the Brabus Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4². Perhaps unhappy with the difference between the “500” designation of the machine and the 422 hp of the 4-liter twin-turbo V8, the Benz-obsessed tuner has decided even things out.

As a result, the lifted G-Class now packs 500 hp and 710 Nm (523 lb-ft), which makes for a torque premium of 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).

In this form, the G500 4x4² can keep up with a hot hatch in terms of acceleration, requiring 6.9 seconds for the 0 to 62 mph. On a machine gifted with portal axles, that’s quite an achievement. However, the top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h (130 mph), as dictated by the offroad rubber of the machine.

The second Gelandewagen we’re talking about may not ride as high as its booth mate, but makes up through the jaw-dropping performance it offers. We are talking about the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar.

This uses the G63 AMG as a starting point, upping the ante all the way to 850 horses. Right now, you might be wondering about that “6.0” in the car’s designation - no, Brabus hasn’t used Mercedes twin-turbo 6-liter V12. Instead, they’ve bored the 5.5-liter V8 to reach 5.9 liters.

As you can imagine, the list of supporting mods for such an output is impressive, with one of the best examples here being the Gold Heat Reflection intake pipes that help keep the intake temperature low.

As for the torque figure, this is even more impressive, sitting at 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft). As a result, the G-Class can now cover the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in four seconds flat, which makes it just as fast the Frankfurt-launched 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera.

As for the top speed, this sits at 260 km/h or 162 mph. We’re wondering about the secrets of its towing capacity right now.
