Brabus B45 Makes the Mercedes-AMG M139 Engine Even More Powerful

It’s called M139, and it is a monster hiding in the cylinders of a 2.0-liter engine. It’s made by Mercedes-AMG, who describes it as being the “world's most powerful four-cylinder engine in series production.” And now, thanks to Brabus, it’s getting even more powerful.

M139 is the engine animating, among others, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S you see here. Only it comes to the world not like its former self, the one rated at 421 PS (416 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque as it came out the factory doors. It is even more potent, after being gifted with special mapping, a new auxiliary control unit, and a special duct for the air box.

The new numbers achieved by Brabus are… numbing. 450 PS (444 hp) is what the engine is now capable of developing thanks to the Brabus intervention, and the torque levels have shot up to 550 Nm (677 lb-ft). That’s enough to take the A45 from zero to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, but sadly the top speed remains limited to the factory-rated 168 mph (270 kph).

The Germans from Brabus just announced the upgrade for the car, one they call internally B45. It will come wrapped in an unassuming package, with no major exterior changes except for the special 20-inch wheels designed for the model and the occasional Brabus logos. Behind these wheels, Brabus will fit sports springs that can lower the car by up to 30 mm (1.2-inch).

As far as the interior goes, the sky is the limit there. Brabus is offering customers the choice of going for the full complement of customization options, with leather playing an important role in all the changes that can be made.

For the time being, the tuner did not say how much making the M139 more powerful than it’s ever been will cost. For more info, you can head over to the German’s online configurator.
