It's been about two years since Mercedes launched the mental G63 AMG, and many people have already forgotten what a revelation this brutish 4x4 was. But that didn't stop Brabus from trying to squeeze out every ounce of character available with this Widestar 700 project.
Why call it Widestar 700? Because it's wide, a superstar and packs 700 horsepower. The essence of the makeover is easy to understand, but the devil is in the details.
Starting off with the regular G63 AMG, the German tuning experts have changed pretty much everything under the bonnet, installing larger turbochargers, intercoolers, injectors and their trademark gold accents. Can you image what it's like to mash the throttle and gain access to 700 horsepower twin-turbo V8? Not many people can because one of these super-SUVs will set you back approximately €270,000.
Mind you, that money has been well spent on custom body parts as well. The Widestar package starts at the front, where we notice a new grille and bumper, followed by a chunky-looking hood with vents. Extra LED lights have also been installed at the lowest part of the front end ad in the rear fender flares.
Round the back, Brabus changed the spare wheel cover and installed a new bumper with integrated LEDs. They also added a large wing on top of the bodywork and finished things off with black wheels and a sports exhaust system.
We've seen plenty of Widestar-converted G63s, but one is matte black all over. The interior is the only place where color can be seen, as small elements of cream leather can be seen on the seats and doors. We think that if Ben Affleck ever needs a crime-fighting SUV, the tuners from Bottrop have exactly the right monster ready. All it needs is cannons and a bat logo.
