Bourdais Awaits Toro Rosso Decision

Sebastien Bourdais is now waiting for Toro Rosso to make a decision concerning his future in Formula 1. As it became obvious that his only shot at securing a racing seat for next season rests in the hands of Toro Rosso – all other teams in the paddock have already settled on their options for 2009 – the Frenchman hopes to be given a second chance and start over next year.

“You could conclude it was a bad season; indeed, if I were to start again, instead of seeking a radical solution to my problems, I would concentrate on smaller things,” admitted Bourdais when asked about his performances this season.

The Frenchman started the 2008 season with a strong performance in Australia, scoring his first points in F1 at his very debut (7th place). Nevertheless, the 4-time ChampCar winner failed to maintain the same pace throughout the season and finished the year with only 4 points under his belt, while also a great run in China (when penalized for allegedly getting in the way of Felipe Massa in the dying laps of the race).

“I hope to know more very soon and have my fingers crossed for good news. I really want to continue,” admitted Bourdais in an interview for French newspaper L'Equipe. The Frenchman's mai contenders for a Toro Rosso seat next season is former Super Aguri driver Takuma Sato (believed to also secure his new time a brand new Honda engine) and Switzerland's Sebastien Buemi.

Bourdais failed to win a point in Brazil but admitted that he wasn't at all worried about it after the race. Considering his performances improved consistently in the second part of the season, he insisted that a single race would not make a difference in Gerhard Berger's decision to either keep him or replace him in the 2009 lineup.

If Bourdais is not picked up by Toro Rosso in 2009, he will most likely be heading back to North America to debut in the newly-formed IndyCar Series.
