Bourdais Close to Secure Dale Coyne Deal for 2011

Sebastien Bourdais might resurrect his racing career on the North American continent, where he used to dominate the world of open-wheel racing a few years back. The former 4-time winner of the ChampCar series is apparently close to signing a part-time deal with Dale Coyne Racing for selected rounds of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series.

Bourdais' first contact with Dale Coyne Racing took place last month, when he was invited to test for the squad at Sebring. Now, a few weeks later, the Frenchman has been confirmed as one of the two drivers the team would like to test during the upcoming group meeting at Barber Motorsports Park, scheduled next week.

I really believe in what Dale is doing with his team and it can be a great workable opportunity for both of us this year,” said Bourdais, according to Autosport, hinting that talks are ongoing about the prospect of racing in the IndyCar next season.

In case a deal will be reached by the two parties, it would likely revolve around a part-time schedule that would give Bourdais the space to handle his ongoing commitments with Peugeot for the 2011 Le Mans Series. The Frenchman is currently part of Peugeot's lineup in the LMP1 class of the series.

Consequently, Dale Coyne Racing would offer Bourdais one of their cars only on road courses through the 2011 IndyCar campaign, where the 32-year old is more accustomed to racing.

When he won his 4 consecutive titles in the now-defunct ChampCar Series, the majority of the races in the championship's calendar were ran on road courses. Following his departure in 2007, he has been driving in Formula 1 – a short-lived career that ended with him being ousted by STR midway through 2009 – Superleague Formula and sports car racing with Peugeot.
