Bourdais Asks for Second Chance

Sebastien Bourdais is still on the waiting list for securing a racing seat for the upcoming season, with Scuderia Toro Rosso unable to make up their mind before the season’s finale at Interlagos. The 4-time Champ Car winner is urging his team to let him know about their plans for 2009 in order for him to move on with his career.

“The bosses of Toro Rosso seem in no hurry to decide my fate. I am concerned about the other proposals I have received from outside of F1 and that soon they will need my answer. A time will come when I will have to take the responsibility,” said Bourdais when asked what are his future plans in Formula 1.

Despite failing to win a point in the last couple of races, the Frenchman has consistently improved his qualifying and race performances. He finished the Japanese Grand Prix in 6th place, but was demoted to 10th place after an unjust penalty handed by race officials due to a racing incident involving title contender Felipe Massa.

Bourdais also continued his good form in China, where he managed to join teammate Sebastian Vettel in Q3 on Saturday. He eventually ended the race in 13th place. The Frenchman had a rather tough rookie year inside Formula 1, despite starting the season with an encouraging 7th place in Australia.

“I hope I will get a second chance, because it has been a difficult season; one of the worst of my whole career, without really being able to leave a lasting impression,” added Bourdais. He is currently 13th overall in the drivers’ classification, having put only 4 points on the scoreboard all season, with one race to go in 2008.

If his deal with STR will not be extended throughout 2009, the Frenchman will most likely continue his racing career inside the North-American IndyCar Series, although a future destination is yet to be determined.
