Bourbon-Powered Junk Car by Mickey Nilsson

With fuel prices rising like they are going crazy, a man from Kentucky probably came up with what is thought to be a solution to gas prices of today.

According to The Daily Load, a 62 year-old man, Mickey Nilsson, of Bardstown, Kentucky, made a bourbon-powered junk car. He got the idea from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (a movie from 1968 directed by Ken Hughes and staring Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries and Benny Hill) and the stars of American Pickers.

Nilsson reports to The Daily Load that his inspiration came from a character played by Dick Van Dyke in the classic Disney movie. The character in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang assembled a flying car from junk parts.

“I was always a fan of Caractacus Potts (the Dick Van Dyke character) from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” said Nilsson. “He was pretty good at re-purposing junk. Always admired that,” added Nilsson.

The American had a lot of junk and scrap metal lying around which were perfect for his bourbon-powered junk car.

“Them two knuckleheads from that TV show American Pickers (Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz) stopped by here trying to steal from me. Offering me $200 for my old still. Said I had no use for it since making moonshine was illegal. After that smart-mouthed remark, I shot at em,” declared Nilsson. “Although I did sell the chubby one with the beard an old oil can for $40 before they ticked me off,” he said.

“After I’d run them off, I kept thinking about what they kept saying to me, ‘what are you going to do with all this stuff, you might as well sell it to us’. Well that left me pondering. Folks around these parts do a lot of pondering, so it wasn’t really nothing new for me as I ponder about something almost everyday. But this time my pondering gave me an idea, watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” Nilsson explains.

It took Nilsson approximately six months to manufacture the vehicle which actually runs on a $24 (EUR16.5) Makers Mark bottle of bourbon.

“The car will run on almost any bourbon, but she really purrs on Maker’s Mark,” said Nilsson.

A consumer version of the Nilsson concept car was showcased a couple of weeks ago by Japanese automaker Nissan which set the official debut for 2014.

At this point the name used for the car is the Nissan Nilsson, but several names are taken into consideration like the Nissan Alky, the Lush or the Inebriator.
