Four years ago, Samsung and Bosch signed a partnership to jointly develop advanced lithium-ion battery packs for EVs - SB LiMotive. However, now Bosch has decided that it does not need a partner in the endeavor and is therefor requesting the partnership to be dissolved, despite the fact that production of battery packs had already begun in South Korea.
There were even plans to double the production output in three years’ time. However, the end of the partnership doesn’t mean that the whole venture ends here, as well. Actually, Bosh will pursue its goals alone, once Samsung’s contractual obligations are satisfied.

According to Dr. Bernd Bohr, Chairman of the Automotive Group of Robert Bosch GmbH stated that: "When it comes to electromobility, a market with great potential for the future, we have already made a successful start with diverse projects, and are driving forward many other developments. In restructuring our operations, we can respond better to our customers' requirements with respect to market focus and speed, and will continue to work all out to expand our market activities."
