It’s probably every car enthusiast’s dream to be able to buy a Shelby Cobra Series 1 Roadster and, for the same price, to get a rare Titan Shelby Series 1 Chopper as well. It’s now possible at the 2016 Scottsdale Auction by Bonhams, so go place your bid.
Everyone knows something about the legendary Carroll Shelby, the man behind some incredible cars from the 1960s such as the AC Cobra, the Mustang GT350 or the GT500. After a long break from the automotive world, Shelby returned with a bang thirty years later, when he designed the Series 1 Roadster from the ground up.
Development began in 1994, and the car was released in 1998. With the Series 1, Shelby wanted to create a fierce rival for the fast and exclusive cars coming from Europe, and he managed to do so by building 249 examples.
The vehicle’s chassis is made from extruded and formed 6061 aluminum, while the outer skin is made of the same metal, underpinned by bonded aluminum honeycomb for stiffness and Kevlar floor panels for lightness. Because of this, the car weighs just 2,650 pounds.
Under the hood, the Series 1 has a 244ci DOHC Oldsmobile L47 Aurora V8 linked to a Corvette ZF 6-speed manual gearbox. Together with a computer-controlled fuel injection, the engine develops 320bhp and rockets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
The other piece of the collection, the Titan Shelby Series 1 Chopper, is also a rare bad boy. The bike is inspired by the Series 1 Roadster and features styling that resembles the car, down to the cam tail on the rear fairing.
This beautiful piece of engineering is powered by a 112 cubic-inch, Vee-twin motor from S&S that develops no less than 115 horsepower. Only 5 of these were ever built.
The Series 1 Roadster that is for sale is finished in the popular color scheme of silver and burgundy stripes over black and grey hides, and it was first registered in June 2001. The car has just over 2,250 miles on the clock and a minimal wear, as it was stored in a garage and has been regularly maintained.
The Titan Shelby Series 1 Chopper, on the other hand, is in pristine condition and shows very few miles on the odometer. The bike is finished in the same color scheme as the car with chrome accents all over it.
This two-for-one special will be sold on January 28, 2016, at The Scottsdale Auction by Bonhams, and it’s expected to fetch somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000.
