Bob Lutz, Tom Purves to Join Lotus?

Lotus Cars has already announced its "revolution", a brand new product plan that made everyone believe that the future will surely bring many more Lotus-branded models. However, it seems like the British brand is actually restructuring its every single department and, in order for the revolution to be complete, it has to hire Bob Lutz and Tom Purves.

Sources familiar with the matter cited by Autonews are hinting that the ex-GM employee, who had a lot of roles within the US giant, and the former BMW executive, respectively, are going to join Lotus as part of a five-year rescue plan.

Lutz, 78, left General Motors two months ago and refused to comment on the subject. Purves, 61, confirmed talks with Lotus and admitted he's willing to join the British carmaker, but didn't get too deep in details as negotiations are yet to come to a conclusion.

“The goal is to make a contribution to projects of the future -- improving the quality, the product offerings and the operations of the company,” Purves was quoted by the aforementioned source.

Lotus Cars, a brand owned by Malaysian carmaker Proton, refused to comment on the appointment of the two experienced executives, but said in an email sent to Autonews that the sole aim of the company is to get back in the auto industry's elite.

“Our aim is to raise the Lotus brand equity back to its rightful place as it existed in the 1970s when it competed with the likes of Ferrari, Porsche or Aston Martin. Maintaining the unique Lotus DNA is crucial, but with more relevance, greater efficiency and even more sustainability than we have had in the past.”
