After a record-breaking run last year, that basically left its main rivals in the dust, BMW is starting off 2015 with a limp. Sure, their sales are even better than what was recorded in January of 2014 but the two other German companies in the segment are higher in absolute numbers.
BMW managed to sell 124,561 units with the blue and white roundel on the bonnet, a 6.3 percent increase compared to the same month of last year. It’s a decent number but not enough to keep the Bavarian company on the top step of the podium for now.

Audi, that held the second place for quite some time now, managed to overtake the Munichers and posted a sales increase of ten percent, enough to deliver 137,700 vehicles last month, a record for the four-ringed company.

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz is recovering as well, the former number 3 now sitting on the second place, with 125,865 vehicles delivered so far in 2015. In percentages, this is an even bigger increase, at 14 percent. It’s the first time the Stuttgart-based company overtakes BMW since September 2010.

Signs are ominous at the moment but there’s no need to fret just yet. Some of the downfall could be due to the Chinese market, where the Munich-based company had some issues with the local dealers not too long ago.

Apparently, that took a toll on the sales and the projected numbers could be adjusted on the go this year. However, the launch of new models and the fact that the conflict with the dealers has been extinguished, could allow BMW to keep its crown by the end of the year.
