After plenty of rumors and seemingly unfounded claims from journalists around the world, BMW has finally taken its GT3 M6 racecar out for a stroll. Of course, it was heavily camouflaged but even so, you can tell that this thing is impressive.
Using the LCI headlights that were just unveiled, the massive aerodynamic work that has been done on the car can be admired in all its glory now. Round the back, on the boot (or what used to be called that on the road-legal car) there’s a huge wing that’s probably adding a lot of downforce.

The car was taken out for tests for the first time last Saturday on the premises of BMW’s Dingolfing plant. The first person to get behind its wheel was Jorg Muller, the legendary driver taking it out for a stroll at exactly 14:00 as the company tells us.

“I am very proud to have taken it out for its first few kilometres. A roll-out is obviously just an initial performance test but, on the whole, everything was very good and we had no problems. The engine really impressed me. It is powerful and has good torque, which is important for a car like this,” said Muller.

At the same time, BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt told us when to look for the new M6 GT3 on the track: 2016. Up until then, plenty of tests will be done to make sure problems met with the current racing car, the Z4, are not ran into again.

Under the bonnet of the M6 will lie the 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine from the road-legal car but highly modified for the track. The power output was taken down to around 500 HP and it has dry sump lubrication. At the same time, thanks to a race-minded approach, the weight has been dropped to around 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs), including the FIA-approved safety cell or roll cage as it is also known.

Other features include a transaxle drive, six-speed sequential racing transmission and optimized electronics. You can order one right now if you’re interested.
