BMW’s Latest 3 Series Commercial Is a Shot at Jaguar's XE

When Jaguar came out with their new XE sedan, they went immediately for the neck of the BMW 3 Series. That’s understandable too as the BMW has been the king of the segment ever since it was released. Heck, it basically invented the concept of a sporty sedan.

Early reviews also claimed that the Jaguar is the better car to drive. Things like an aluminum-intensive monocoque, double-wishbones for the suspension, aluminum front knuckles and the so-called Integral Link rear suspension were supposed to give the XE the upper hand.

However, BMW wasn’t to be outshined. Just this year, a few weeks after the Jag started being delivered, they revealed the facelifted version of their current F30 3 Series. And what do you know? They worked on key areas to make the car even more enjoyable.

First of all, they added a couple of new engines that are both more efficient and more powerful. The new 340i should be the next benchmark in the segment.

Second, they worked on the suspension, and the dampers were changed to offer a better feel on the road. Going for the M Sport suspension you get an adaptive system that lets you control how sporty the car should be.

The rear-wheel drive models are also 10 mm lower now, and BMW claims that new sensors will help you get the most out of your car. We didn’t get to drive the facelift version yet, but we’re waiting to see how it would fare against the new face on the scene. Until then, the most recent commercial about the facelifted 3 Series seems to us like a direct shot at Jaguar.
