On January 12, the 2015 Detroit Auto Show will be opening its doors for the 108th time, showcasing the best automakers have to offer at the moment. Amongst them will be BMW that will bring no less than 6 world premieres to the center stage alongside the unveiling of the company’s first fuel-cell drive module.
Unfortunately, information is scarce surrounding the specs this hydrogen-powered engine will have as the press release from BMW keeps everything secret but we expect to learn more on the spot. Either way, there are an impressive number of premieres that will take place on the stage.

The 2015 6 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe Facelifts

Unveiled yesterday, the 2015 BMW 6 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe models will take to the main stage, showing their new ... faces. To be completely honest, the life cycle impulse (as BMW calls all its facelifts) is rather limited to the front fascia.

That’s where the only noticeable improvements have been done. To be even more specific, we’ll tell you that only the air intakes on the M Sport models were changed alongside the headlights that are now featuring new styling elements. That’s it and we’re serious.

Inside the cabin you can now choose from a wider range of materials and Individual features as well as new paint colors for the exterior of the car.

Along with the new models come new design lines called ‘Design Pure Experience’ and ‘Design Pure Excellence’ that we already covered in a previous article. The engine will also remain the same.

The 2015 M6 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe

The other three world premieres will be the M6 variants of the facelifted 6 Series. In this case the engine remained the same as well, albeit you can grab the Performance Package if you want more power.

What’s changed however, are the headlights that have new corona rings and are now fitted with LED technology as standard. You also get more choices inside the cabin like Merino Aragon full-leather trims and stylistic accents in black chrome.

Additional services for the BMW i3 and i8

BMW promised that the i3 and i8 will be two electric cars in the world that will come with a complete support package. By that they meant that every owner will have access to a host of options in case their battery runs out or if they find themselves in a pickle.

Well, at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the company will be unveiling their plans in this regard as well. We already told you that the Germans want to rival Tesla’s Supercharger network with their own ChargeNow stations and we’ll get to learn more details about how they plan to do that.

Furthermore, they will also be rolling out the ParkNow app that allows you to seek and find parking spots near charging stations for both long and short term. Along with DriveNow (a car sharing platform) you shouldn’t have a problem with mobility anymore.

To top it all off the pilot program ‘Second Life’ will be explained in detail. What it does is take the lithium-ion batteries that have run their course in the i3 and i8 cars and uses them in other purposes as stationary energy storage devices.

Over the air navigation updates

BMW is also planning to roll out regular automatic map updates for its navigation systems. Updating will take place over the air (via the mobile phone network) using the car’s built-in SIM card.

This way, customers won’t have to pay anymore to have the their systems up to date with the latest roads and available info. Furthermore, there will be no charge for the data traffic on the SIM card needed to upgrade the system. Of course, all of this will apply only for the Navigation system Professional, the top of the line choice.
