Living just 20 kilometers away from the circuit, in Fürth, Marco Wittmann is probably the most excited driver of the bunch, about the upcoming race. Leading the Drivers’ Championship at the moment, with 50 points, the youngster wants to prove that he wasn’t just lucky in the previous races.

“There is huge anticipation ahead of my home race at the Norisring. This event is the highlight of the year. It is fantastic to compete at my home race as the leader in the Drivers’ Championship. The circuit is only a few kilometres from my home. My family and friends will be there to support me and cheer me on. A good result at the Norisring would be a dream come true,” said Marco.

The 2.8 km track was often called the Monaco of the DTM. That’s because of its setup that takes the cars on city streets, similar to the ones found in the Mediterranean principality, keeping the cars within a hair of the walls at times. They all have to do 83 laps in these conditions before the race is over.

After an eventful race, BMW was rather disappointed the last time it competed here, the best placed driver in their line-up finishing 6th (Bruno Spengler). The extreme heat and two safety car periods contributed to a frustrating outcome. In its entire DTM endeavor, BMW claimed only 5 wins on the Nürnberg track.

“We have enjoyed a good start to the season with the new BMW M4 DTM. However, we will not make the mistake of resting on our laurels. You have to work hard for every single success in the DTM, and a weekend of hard work awaits us in Nürnberg this weekend,” said Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director.

A special appearance from Alessandro Zanardi and his BMW Z4 GT3 will also cheer up the fans present at the Norisring track this weekend. The BMW employees in Nürnberg and all the members of the BMW Motorsport teams will form a human chain from the ITR stage to Alessandro Zanardi, passing along 4 tires that will then be changed by the pit crew, allowing the Italian driver to set out on the track.
