“Used to be people never wanted to get stuck behind a diesel. Now, they don’t have a choice!” That’s how BMW’s new commercial for their unbelievable 328d starts. And that’s how it’s supposed to be.
For too long the US ignored diesels. It’s time to give them credit for what they are. The advancements in technology make diesels just as clean as petrol engines right now. The 328d has a 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine that delivers 184 HP and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. Enough to make it ‘eat up’ 45 miles per gallon (5.2 l/100km).
Not only that, but hooked up to an automatic transmission with 8 speeds, built by ZF, the car is no slouch. It reaches 62 mph in a respectable 7.6 seconds but the torque will make you burn rubber without meaning too.
For us, diesels are worth the effort and out attention. How about you? What do you find wrong with them?
