We've secretly always thought the Z4 roadster had one of the most interesting interiors out of all the modern day BMWs. This unassuming two-seater is rarely talked about, but we enjoy the look of its asymmetrical dash and the many buttons and knobs that aren't shared with any other Bimmers.
The guys working at interior specialists Carlex Design also saw the potential for greatness in the Z4 and set about creating one amazing cabin to make you feel like you're behind the helm of an amazing war dirigible packed with inventions of great wonder. That's right, we're looking at the only steampunk BMW Z4 interior in the world and we definitely love what we see.

This is Carlex's second major steampunk project and they clearly know what they're doing. Trim pieces for the console, dash, door handles and steering wheel have been fitted with copper plates, riveted into place like a boiler or WWII airplane.

As for the leatherwork, they wanted the passengers not to feel like they're in a stripped down cockpit, so the finest alcantara and leather were used. In places, a very large stitching technique is used to hold everything together, making the seats look as tough as nails. Even the humble seatbelts were changed and the roll cage now looks like it's made of locomotive parts.

As for the exterior, matte black now covers most of the bodywork, with the roof and new alloy wheels shaded in copper for contrast. It's the same look they pulled off on that MINI Countryman they did last year. If memory serves, it was for a steampunk bar/cafe in Pszczyna, so the owner of that might be a bit of a BMW fan.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
