Sometimes, you have to think outside the box, or perhaps outside the gearbox and the behavior of the BMW driver in the video below serves as the perfect example of this.
Having made the mistake of letting his Bimmer slide out of control through the Schwedenkreuz section of the Nurburgring, the man put the sportscar into reverse mid-slide, thus avoiding a crash that could've potentially totaled his car.

Then again, it looks like the slab of Germany this driver worked hard to save does have its merits, as we seem to be looking at a Z4 M Coupe here, a rare and track-potent machine.

If you zoom in on the dynamics of the axles, you'll notice how the rear wheels start spinning backward around the time the Z4 M Coupe reached the point where it slides perpendicularly to the axis of its grass-eating path.

And while the slippery surface did help with the maneuver, the driver also went for the reverse move (no pun intended), switching back into first gear and flooring it after returning to the track and noticing the car was still skidding.

At first, it might seem like this is just another one of the Schwedenkreuz episodes that sees BMWs oversteering their way through the grass on the inner side of the Aremberg corner.

Heck, we've brought you such a piece just yesterday, with the E36 M3 that escaped the crash owing this to a mix between the maneuvers of his driver and sheer luck. However, the Z4 M Coupe we have here had gone too sideways for the driver to try and recover the car the old fashioned way, namely by modulating the throttle in a forward gear and countersteering.

Do keep in mind we're discussing a corner that, like most other Green Hell twists, has no shame in claiming any cool car you can think of, from a Renault Megane RS, to an Audi R8 V10.
