If you happen to identify with the not-exactly-small camp of aficionados who believe that SUV-Coupes make no sense, you might just be right. However, with this niche generating hefty sales, we'll continue to see automotive producers pushing the genre forward. And one of the next machines to jump the high-riding, sloping roof line bandwagon could be the BMW X8.
For now, I've brought along a render that portrays a BMW X8 M - the pixel play mixes the styling cues of the X7 with various Motorsport Division elements, such as the quadruple exhaust pipes or the door mirrors.
Returning to the real world, I'll remind you that rumors of an X8 are still going strong. However, while it may seem simple to expect the German carmaker to play with the roof of the X7, there's one aspect that might prevent the birth of such a model.
You see, the sporty roof line doesn't exactly go well with the headroom required by a third row of seats. And a full-size SUV without such accommodation assets would be less than reasonable - why would you grab such a model instead of an X6, for instance?
Of course, BMW could always take the X7 further by introducing a more lavish incarnation of the model and leaving any potential X8 plans aside.
However, if the big SUV-Coupe does get built, an M version doesn't seem impossible. For one thing, the Bavarian automotive producer's go-fast arm has an insatiable thirst for niches these days. And it's enough to compare to non-existent M8 production model that defined the original with the all-new M8, which is here in Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible form.
Well, until get to find out more on the matter, I'll remind you that the German automaker is almost ready to introduce the new X5 M and X6 M, so fans of high-riding M model that need something bigger than the 2020 X3 M and X4 M will have reasons to rejoice.
