BMW X6 M Drag Races 2020 Jaguar F-Type R, Humiliation Occurs

The Jaguar F-Type is a cool car, undeniably good-looking, made in Britain, exotic yet nowhere near as expensive as a McLaren. But can it keep up with today's super-fast German monsters?

The F-Type recently underwent a kind of refresh, leaving it with a wider set of eyes and some updated tech. There's no doubt that engineers worked hard on the springs, the anti-roll bars, and ECU. However, the beating heart of the 2-seater remains the same.

For the 2020 model, the F-Type R has the same power as the old SVR. It's an increase. However, it means the Jag is still no closer to winning drag races. Until today, we've seen only one such simplified motorsport event, where the R got demolished by a BMW M8 Competition.

But we know the two-door M8 Coupe is the fastest accelerating car BMW makes. Perhaps the Jaguar stands a better chance against the X6 M. Still powered by a potent 4.4-liter V8, this thing is a little bit chunkier, less aerodynamic. Amusingly, the Bimmer's engine was precisely the one rumored to go into the Jaguar a few years ago.

However, we'd stop just short of calling the X6 M slow, as we've seen the beast pull itself to many victories. It also makes 50 more horsepower than the Jaguar, which is heavier than the coupe shape would lead you to believe.

So what exactly happens? Well, the German SUV pulls ahead at the beginning of the race and manages to stay there until the end of the runway. The Jaguar seems to be a little faster at top speed but loses ground every time the gearbox shifts, which was a problem with the pre-facelift model as well.

The rolling race favors the Jag, but only slightly. And there lies the problem with the F-Type. There's no point in buying a sports car if, for just a bit more money, you can have an SUV that as fast or faster.
