We’ve known for quite some time now that the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie, the fifth of the saga, will feature some BMWs. We saw the wrecked cars being carried off the set initially and then the initial trailer of the film, and we were blown away by how good they look on screen. Not so much after the stunt drivers were done with them, though.
However, we didn’t have the slightest idea that BMW will want to advertise its new plug-in hybrid SUV, the X5 xDrive40e model in the Tom Cruise movie as well. The latest trailer seems to point that way anyhow though, as you can see below.

In it, we get to see the F80 M3 in action once again, as well as the BMW S1000RR superbike alongside the new SUV. It seems like an all out Bimmerfest in there, something we can’t say is surprising.

That’s because the Bavarians provided other cars for the fourth installment of the saga before, in Ghost Protocol Tom Cruise even driving the VISION concept that previewed the i8.

If that was just a concept, this time, Ethan Hunt will be driving the real deal, both the M3 and the xDrive40e. If the M car has been around long enough to familiarize ourselves with it, the plug-in hybrid will be a fresh face on the cinema screens.

Under its bonnet lies a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 245 HP connected to a synchronous electric motor good for 113 HP. Unfortunately, the two can’t deliver their full potential at the same time, so the total output of the car goes up to just 313 HP. Is that enough for high-speed chases in an action flick? Well, let’s take a look!
