BMW X4 UK Line-Up Has no Petrol Models

Talk about a different perspective! Unlike the US line-up for the BMW X4, the UK range will not include a single petrol engine. That’s right, people! If you live on the island, you can only have your pick out of 3 diesel alternatives if you want the brand new Sport Activity Coupe.
The major discrepancy on how different cultures look at diesel and petrol engines is, once again, emphasized by the marketing approach of big manufacturers. Whereas. in the US, oil-burners are a rarity, in the UK they’re best sellers, therefore BMW took a radically different approach.

Even so, the British customers will not be disappointed, as the 3 diesel engines that will arrive across the English channel from Germany will be powerful and refined enough.

The entry level xDrive20d, starting at £36,590 is fitted with the new 2-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine also available on the LCI X3, making 190 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque that’s capable of sending the SAC to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 8 seconds. It’s also the only car in the line-up, available with both a manual 6-speed gearbox and an automatic 8-speed, all the others being restricted to the latter option.

In case that’s not enough power there are 2 more 3-liter options out there, one with a single twin-scroll turbocharger and one with two turbos, the xDrive30d and xDrive35d models. The former has 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds whilst the latter does the sprint 0.6 seconds faster thanks to 313 HP and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.

Fuel consumption is another forte of these 3 compared to their petrol alternatives, the average mpg being rated somewhere in the high 40s. Prices start at £44,890 for the xDrive30d and go up another £4,100 for the xDrive35d model that comes, as standard with the M Sport package.

Standard features include automatically opening tailgate, Variable Sport Steering, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, front and rear Park Distance Control, Performance Control and Xenon headlights, plus 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, a Sport leather steering wheel, Heated front seats and BMW Business Media package.
