So, there you have it folks, the new X4 is here. How are things looking? After the concept was shown for the first time nearly exactly a year ago, the BMW crew started working on what would become the X3’s brother.

Coming forth, the X4 shows the same general lines out back as its bigger brother, the X6. However, some changes were done, nonetheless, to make sure the new car fits in the day and age it was launched into. Unlike the E71, the F26 has the new L-Shaped LED taillights around the back, just like most of the models the Bavarians launch today.

The overall shape of the roof reminds of a coupe, with its peak height being recorded just above the driver’s seat from where it starts to slope down towards the muscular rear wings.

Up front, things look like the LCI X3, just as we pictured they will, but the front bumper features a completely new design, with large air intakes positioned on the edges that help cool down the engine. Another interesting difference from the X3 is that the SAC sits lower than is SAV brother by about 20 mm for better handling and cornering abilities.

Since this is a car that will go on sale as a 2015 model, all the EfficientDynamics features will, of course, be incorporated into it. From the standard Auto Stop Start function to Coasting, Brake Energy Regeneration and on-demand operation of auxilliary units, the car returns impressive fuel consumption figures and CO2 emission numbers, depending on the engine you choose, of course.

Talking about engines, the masterpiece of every BMW, the X4 arrives with an impressive range from day one. On the diesel front, there will be 3 models available, ranging from the xDrive20d and xDrive30d to the top spec xDrive35d. As for petrol units, we’ll be getting 3 more models, the xDrive20i, xDrive28i and xDrive35i. Therefore we’ll have 6 engines available from day one. We’ll get more into the specs later on.

Getting back to the car, BMW stuck to the same interior as on the new X3, including the ‘X’ lettering on the headrests but going in a different way with the seats that now feature a different design with a textile strap down the center upper part of the back rests.

Of course, you’ll also get all the latest ConnectedDrive features, controlled with the same touch sensitive iDrive controller as in all recent Bimmers. You can get the full-color Head-Up Display, anti dazzle High Beam Assistant, Driving Assistant Plus (including Lane Departure Warning), Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, preventive pedestrian protection and a Collision Warning System.

As for the apps, you can now enjoy Real Time Traffic Information, Concierge Services and Remote Services alongside Facebook, Twitter and AUPEO! integration.

Prices start at $45,625 (destination and handling included) for the US for the entry level xDrive28i, going up to $48,925 for the xDrive35i model, production starting this spring at the Spartanburg plant, in South Carolina.
