The world premiere of the upcoming BMW X4 took place at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. Back then, the whole world gathered around to see the new Sports Activity Coupe from BMW.
After they invented the SAC segment with the X6, the Bavarian company set out to revolutionize the industry once again with a smaller version, the X4. Almost everyone loved this car from day one, its massive and powerful lines making it a true BMW, at least in concept guise. The production model will look close to this but not exactly the same.

Witnessing it first hand was previously limited to the couple of days while it was showcased at Shanghai but now, the company decided to put it on display at their headquarters in Munich. This is where it will be available for viewing in case you happen to be in the area and interested in what the world-famous museum with over 75,000 visitors per year has to offer.

The BMW Welt building will be hosting the X4 Concept for an undetermined period of time or until the official, production version will be released. Our sources inside Munich claim that the new Sport Activity Coupe will be sharing almost everything with its bigger, older brother, the X3. Think of it as the exact same relationship the X5 has with the X6.

The chassis and platform will be the same, the F25 X3 being the donor for the F26 X4. The engines will also be shared, varying from 2-liter petrol and diesels to 3-liter versions for those with higher expectancies from the new car.

To be honest, one does not buy the X4 for its practical side. The sloping roof that wants to resemble the silhouette of a coupe definitely cuts into the rear headroom and the luggage space available. Therefore, we can’t really see why one would get this car with a 2-liter diesel engine, for example.

To us, only the xDrive35i version would make sense and its faster diesel alternative, the xDrive35d. We’ll see how the real-life numbers stack up though to our theory, once the car is officially launched in production guise. Until then, the concept will have to do.
