The BMW annual earnings press conference that was held in Munich on Tuesday brought some other interesting news, besides the record sales registered by the German brand in 2012.
According to Automotive News Europe, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed a new X model for 2014, the X4. The new SUV will aim at a totally new segment, just as it was the case with the X6.

"With the X6 we have attracted a completely different buyer than for the X5. We expect the same thing to happen with the X4 versus the X3," Ian Robertson, BMW sales chief, told Automotive News Europe Tuesday.

It is expected that the X4 will be slightly sportier than it's older brother, the X3, and the body of the new car will have coupe styling along with a lower roofline.

The new X model will also be produced in the US, at the Spartanburg plant, where all the other BMW SUV's are currently produced. However, BMW plans to increase the plant's capacity in order to meet the market demand.

"We need more capacity in Spartanburg not only for the upcoming X4 but also for the current X range," Robertson said. "BMW could have sold another 35,000 units of the X3 last year if the plant had been able to build them" he added.
