Buying a new car is not an easy task, especially when you’re on a budget. One Autoguide reader asked what car he should buy, limited to a bit over $40,000 and having to comply with a specific list of requirements.
Those requirements included: front and rear seat legroom has to be generous, it must fit 5 passengers, it must handle well, the cargo room should be similar to the one of an SUV and fuel consumption must be above 23 mpg combined.

The guys from Autoguide made up a quick list with 3 vehicles: the F25 BMW X3 xDrive28i, Mercedes-Benz GLK250 BlueTEC 4Matic and Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Now, they had to separate the three and pick a winner.
Of course, the X3 claimed the number one spot. The main advantages of the X3 over its competitors were the engine that was more than potent and returned decent mpg, the 8-speed gearbox and the price, the other 2 variants being more expensive.
