Want proof that BMW is now a company that makes SUV? After unveiling two of them on Friday, the X2 M35i and X5 xDrive45e, the Bavarians showed the new X3 M and X4 M today.
The pair of sports SUVs isn't finished yet, but they're getting close to the point of the reveal, and several photos and videos have been released. They show a much more revealing and colorful camouflage scheme that doesn't leave much to the imagination.

If you still hate sports SUVs, you need to get on board this bandwagon, as the X3 and X4 M aren't bad. They are rugged and strong-looking, yet also way lighter and more nimble than an X5. And if you're worried about them falling over at the nearest corner, you need to check out the moose tests, where the base X4 performed particularly well.

From the front, the two are pretty much identical, sporting a new grille design and bumpers with enlarged air intakes. But the back end of the X3 M sports a more pronounced trunk spoiler. Hopefully, those quad exhaust pipes deliver a decent soundtrack.

The Alfa Stelvio has a whole word to define its sportiness, "Quadrifoglio." So what does that particular little letter, M, bring to the X3 and X4? Well, BMW didn't fill us in on any technical details, but we doubt the ones we have already are bad.

Under the hood of both cars is a brand new 3-liter inline-6 with twin turbochargers. It's derived from the B-series unit in the M40i models, so it will be a little better than what's in the M3. The only thing the press release discusses is that the unit is a “newly developed straight six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving characteristics.”

The maximum output of around 450-460 horsepower will be sent to all four wheels via an xDrive system which BMW claims “guarantees maximum traction and loss-free distribution of drive torque for achieving extremely dynamic handling characteristics.”
