Today, German manufacturer BMW announced the prices for the new X3 model in its right hand drive guise for the Australian market. To be launched three months from now, in March 2001, the model will be sold locally starting at AU$62,200.

For the local customers, BMW has prepared a choice of three engines, offered in the form of the xDrive20d (AU$62,200, 135 kW and 380 Nm of torque, fuel consumption 5.6l/100km and CO2 emissions 147 g/km), the xDrive28i (AU$71,900, 190 kW and 310 Nm of torque, fuel consumption 9l/100 km and CO2 emissions 210 g/km) and the xDrive30d (to sell three months after launch for AU$74,900, 190 kW 560 Nm of torque, fuel consumption 6.0l/100 km).

Regardless of the chosen model, the Australian customers will benefit from rear view camera, high-resolution 6.5 inch color monitor, USB audio interface, Bluetooth, keyless starting (Comfort Go), electric power steering with Servotronic for easy parking, 8-speed automatic transmission, and 40/20/40 split rear seats.

As options, BMW offers for the X3 the Performance Control system, Dynamic Damper Control (with NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ settings) and Variable Sports Steering. Being a BMW, the model benefits from the entire array of EfficientDynamics features: automatic start-stop function, automatic transmission, brake energy generation and electric power-steering.

The model also comes equipped with the ConnectedDrive package, which brings to the market Internet access through a compatible mobile phone.

“The new BMW X3 combines performance, elegance and practicality all in equal measure making it an especially relevant vehicle for the Australian market,” said Peter Buchauer, BMW Group Australia managing director. “In essence, it is the ultimate all-rounder.”
