Looking for that perfect crossover to make you journeys enjoyable and cheap at the same time? Look no more, as Edmunds put together a top of the best crossovers to take on a long trip.
The rankings were done using real-life tests done at the pump during the guys' test drives of the respective cars. Furthermore, electric vehicles have been excluded, this top being limited only to 'old school' models.

Number one on their rankings was the 2013 Mazda CX-5 with 35 mpg highway, followed closely by the 2013 BMW X1 with 34 mpg highway. Whereas such differences can be observed just by using the 'light-footed' driving style, we have to respect their findings and allow Mazda to take the number one spot.

The podium was completed by the 2013 Buick Encore with 33 mpg tied by the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstek with the same consumption, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class diesel and the 2013 Ford Escape, all of them recording the same fuel consumption.
