BMW has launched the Long Wheelbase version of the second-generation X1 in China. The carmaker did not bother to create a naming scheme for this model, but preferred to call this X1 for what it is, a Long Wheelbase version of the Sports Activity Vehicle of the Munchen-based brand.
The car is longer than its predecessor by 3.1 inches (8 centimeters), wider by 2 cm (0.7 inches), and taller by 4 cm (1.5 inches).

The extended wheelbase brought between 2 to 7 inches (5-18 cm) of space for the rear passenger’s legs. They can even recline and move their seats back and forth, and the cargo capacity is between 465-675 liters (16.4-23.8 cubic feet), depending on the position of the rear bench.

The back seat can be folded, as it is split into three, and trunk capacity is increased to roughly three times the smallest value mentioned above.

The powertrain options of the X1 Long Wheelbase include three engines, starting with a three-cylinder engine which delivers 136 HP through a six-speed transmission.

The following units have four cylinders and provide 192 or 231 HP, and only these come with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

Just like its European and American brothers, the X1 is available in several trim versions, a choice which also includes a different look for some ornaments. The Chinese version of the X1 with its Long Wheelbase is available in the xLine and Sport Line equipment and design ranges.

Customers can order almost anything available in the European family, from a head-up display and LED headlights, to dynamic dampers and a Harman Kardon sound system. BMW customers in China will be able to place an order on the X1 Long Wheelbase in the coming months.

Pricing has not been announced, but this car is only available in China and built with the aid of the German brand’s local partner, Brilliance. The Tiexi plant of the BMW Brilliance partnership has made over 140,000 BMW X1 models so far.

On the Chinese market, the first generation achieved sales of around 200,000 units. The number represents a quarter of total global sales for this model, which is why BMW decided to give Chinese customers a dedicated version.
