It seems like the collaboration between BMW and Toyota is finally showing some results as the Japanese company just announced that it will be using BMW’s own diesel units for some of its cars.
Apparently the Verso model will be using the Germans’ 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine that complies with EU5 emission regulations. However, in this guise it will be making less power than usual, being limited to 112 HP and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque.
For this whole thing to work out, the guys from Toyota had to make a couple of changes to the car’s chassis and electronics, to make sure there won’t by any problems along the way and recalls are limited to a minimum.
Amongst these changes they mentioned new engine mounts and a dual-mass flywheel and design a new gearbox housing. On top of all that, a new stop-start system was developed.
