Back in 2012, BMW was winning the DTM title in its first season back in the German competition after 20 years of absence. The car that managed to take everyone by surprise was the E92 M3 Coupe with Bruno Spengler behind the wheel.

This year, the story seems to repeat itself. In its maiden year in the DTM, the M4 managed to rise to the highest position on the podium bringing the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles to Munich so far. Actually, it took Marco Wittmann only 8 out of the 10 races to declare himself this year’s champion.

BMW still has some work to do to win the Manufacturers’ title as well but we think that’s just a matter of time, the Hockenheim race being prolific for the Bavarian brand. Tomorrow we’ll know for sure.

When Bruno won the title in 2012 BMW launched a special edition M3 that was called BMW M3 DTM Bruno Spengler Champion Edition. That’s right, long and boring. There were only 54 cars made and all of them went only to European Customers.

It was also impossible not to spot them due to their special livery, Frozen Black, decorated with the M stripes and with Spengler’s flag and name written on the rear windows. From a technical point of view, the cars were all fitted with the Competition Package and prices were set at EUR99,000.

Last night, the BMW M Facebook page published 2 photos of a car hidden under a special cover that said “M4 DTM Champion Edition 1/23”. I think it’s safe to assume we’re in for a special version of the M4 that will celebrated BMW’s win and Marco’s title, built in only 23 units.

Since the 2014 DTM season will end tomorrow, that’s when we expect the veils to be taken off this special model and we’ll be able to tell you all about it, including the price tag.
